ART SHOW AT MILE HI TATTOO
In the American tradition of the pin-up, photographer Jim J. Narcy creates artwork to turn the very essence of a woman’s drop-dead desirable, seductive, playful, alluring power into a tangible reality. But what makes vintage pin-up art enduring and intriguing? It is true there are more revealing magazine photographs in grocery store check out aisles. Jim Narcy reflects, “a great pin-up really communicates the spirit of the model with her expressive eyes not just her bust and hips. Many classic pin-ups have an element of story that makes me wonder, ‘what happens next?’ This mental and emotional engagement is its essential power.” Over the past three years, Mr. Narcy has kept busy photographing hundreds of ladies of all ages (19-65 years old,) the bulk of which are literally the girl-next-door as well as a sampling of professional models and burlesque dancers.

Mr. Narcy’s skill in editorial work has gained him the opportunity to shoot dozens of covers for magazines and newspapers, chiefly Westword newspaper, 5280, Denver Business Journal and Mile High Sports Magazine winning notable commissions to photograph subjects as varied as Colorado’s governor Bill Ritter and pop star Jason Mraz. In 2006 he started a pin-up photography company called Paper Dolls -- A Pin-Up Party which creates retro styled pin-ups (think of models Bettie Page and Marilyn Monroe and artists like Gil Elvgren and Alberto Vargas.) “The vintage pin-up style appeals to me a great deal more than the modern. It seems there is a vacant stare in the eyes of models in men’s magazines these days and I don’t want any part of that,” says Narcy.

Paper Dolls pin-up photography company hosts several promotional events annually and most recently produced a charity fund raiser for Rocky Mountain USO generating more than $3200.00 in just six weeks.
